    TIA is willingly emerging as a major commercial entity while keeping itself to the role of infrastructure provider for airlines and other clients.Following are the list of charges category for both domestic and international fight operator:

    Landing: Domestic

    When an aircraft is landed in this airport the operator should pay the landing charge according to the following table.

    Parking Domestic

    When an aircraft is parked no Parking Charges shall be levied for the first 3 hrs. Provided that the period of parking exceeds 3 hrs, then 6 each hrs will make one parking unit.

  • Aircraft

    Entry, Transit and Departure of Aircraft
    • Flights shall be permitted inside the Kingdom of Nepal with the permission of the Director General of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal. The following regulations shall govern the flights of aircraft into, in transit or across the Nepalese territory.
    • International flights into, from or over Nepalese territory shall be subject to the current Nepalese regulations relating to civil aviation. These regulations correspond in all essentials to the Standards and Recommended Practices contained in Annex 9 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation.
    • Aircraft flying into or departing from the territory of Nepal shall make their first landing at, or final departure from, Tribhuvan international Airport, Kathmandu, Nepal.

    Scheduled Flights:

    • For regular international scheduled flights operated by foreign airlines into or in transit across Nepal, the following requirements must be met:

      a) The State of the airline must be a party to the International Air Services Transit Agreement and/or the International Air Transport Agreement. Nepal is a party to the International Air services Transit Agreement.
      b) The airline must be eligible to make the flights under the provisions of a bilateral or multilateral agreement to which the State of the airline and Nepal are contracting parties and must have a permit to operate into or in transit across Nepal. Applications for such permits must be made in writing and must reach the Director General of Civil Aviation Authority at least of 60 working days before the applicable date.

    Nonscheduled Flights:

    Procedures
    • Over-flights

      a) Advance notification and permission from Civil Aviation Authority is necessary subject to the terms of the convention on International Civil Aviation, Kingdom of Nepal, facilitates overflights by civil aircraft of ICAO contracting states with which Nepal has diplomatic relations provided adequate notification shall have been given.
      b) In all other cases, request for operation of flight must be sought and obtained through diplomatic means from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kingdom of Nepal.

    • Non-Traffic or Technical Landings Same procedure as for over flight in addition, operators should schedule their arrivals and departures within the operation hour of the aerodrome, beyond which prior coordination is required.
    • Traffic Landings and Uplifts

      a) All non-scheduled flights are subject to prior approval, Applications for approval to operate such flights shall be submitted either by letter or AFS or Facsimile or telex to: Director General Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal Babarmahal, Kathmandu Nepal AFS : VNKTYAYX Tele-fax: 977-1-262516 Telex : 2553 DCA NP E-mail : dgca@caanepal.org.np Website: http://www.caanepal.org.np/ All applications must be made in writing and must reach the Director General, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal at least 15 working days prior to the aircraft's arrival or departure into from Nepal. If insufficient notice is given the application shall not be considered.
      b) Only the operator may apply for permission to operate a non-scheduled flight. The permit will be granted in the name of the operator. In applying for a permit for Charter flights, a copy of the Aircraft Charter Contract is to be submitted together with the following details

      1) Name, address and nationality of operator / owners
      2) Name, address and business of charterer;
      3) Type, registration mark, maximum all up weight and maximum seating capacity of aircraft and tyre pressure;
      4) Name of Pilot-in-Command and number of crew, Nationality;
      5) Nature of flight including details weather the flight is to carry passengers or cargo or both;
      Private Flights
      4.1 Advance notification of arrival
      4.1.1 Application for permission must be submitted to Director General, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal at least 7 working days in advance of the applicable date.
      4.2 Documentary requirements for clearance of aircraft.
      4.3. Same requirements as for scheduled flights.



  • Custom Declaration

    Custom Declaration on Arrival (For Foreign Nationals)

    Duty Exempted Goods:

    • Binocular one set.
    • Tablet or Laptop one piece

    • One set of portable music system and 10 pieces of recorded media to be used in the music system
    • Used clothng articles,bedding and household goods
    • One set of professional equipment using by the passenger in her/his profession

    • One bottle of liquor (upto 1.15 litre) of twelve cans of beer

    • Fifteen pieces of film for still camera and twelve piece of film for movie camera
    • Medicine upto the value of Rs. Ten thousand (except the medicine banned to import into Nepal
    • Food stuff upto the value of Rs. Five thousand (including tin pack food)
    • Fresh fruits upto the value of Rs. Two Thousand
    • Gold Ornaments upto Fifty grams and Silver Ornaments upto Hundred grams

  • Passengers and Crews

    Customs Requirements:

    • Customs in Nepal is operated under the final channel system - the Red and Green channel, for the expeditious clearance of air travellers. All arriving passengers shall present themselves personally with their baggage and make oral declarations to customs at the Red channel if they have any prohibited, controlled or dutiable/taxable goods to declare. They do not have any such goods exceeding their duty/tax -free concession, they can pass through the green channel. However, passengers going through the green channel may he checked on a selective basis All crew members are required to produce their baggage at the Red channel only. Baggage may he examined in such manner as deemed necessary and it shall be the duty of the person in charge of the baggage to produce, open, unpack and repack such baggage.
    • Personal effects of the passengers are permitted free entry. They are allowed to bring in the, consumable articles such as liquor one bottle up 1 .0 liters, 200 sticks of cigarette, 1 5 rolls of photo film and 12 rolls of movie camera film
    • Visitors are also allowed to carry one binocular, one camera, one movie camera, one video camera, one radio, one tape recorder, one by-cycle, one wrist watch, one set of fountain pen, one perambulator, 15 radio cassettes and 10 disk records into the country for personnel use, on the condition that they are declared and are to be taken back on return. Carrying narcotics, arms and ammunitions are strictly prohibited.
    • No custom formalities are normally required for departing passengers unless it is required to do so. However, restrictions on the carriage of foreign cash currency in and out of the country remain in force Visitors can export souvenirs to their respective countries, However, the export of antiques and precious or semi precious stones requires a clearance and certificate from the Department of Archaeology, Ram Shah Path (Tel : 215358). Gold, Silver, Precious stones, wild animals and their skins, horns etc., all drugs whether processed or in their natural state are prohibited to export.

  • VAT refund can be claimed by any Non-Nepalese tourist fulfilling the following conditions:

    • The person is neither citizen of Nepal nor resident of Nepal,
    • The person is not a cabin/flight crew member of an airline departing from Nepal.
    • The person is not employed in Nepal in past six months,
    • The parson is departing from Nepal by air carrier from Tribhuvan International Airport.
    • The person has been in Nepal for less than 183 days.


    How to shop and get your VAT Refund?

    • Shop from the stores displaying “VAT Refund for Tourist” sign.
    • Each invoice must not be less than Rs. 1,500.00 (excluding VAT) and total amount of Purchases must be at least Rs. 15,000.00 (excluding VAT).
    • Present your passport and complete your “Tourist Application for VAT Refund” form at the store on the purchase date.
    • Present two copies of “Tourist Application for VAT Refund” form stamped by Nepalese Customs together with original purchase tax invoice and photocopy of claimant passport showing name, nationality, passport number and Nepal entry and exit dates before VAT Refund Agency Office at Tribhuvan International Airport.
    • VAT Refund only applies to goods taken out of Nepal within 60 days from the date of purchase.


    How to claim a VAT refund?

    • Before check-in, show your purchases, completed “Tourist Application for VAT Refund” form and Tax Invoices to the Customs Officer for inspection at the Custom Office. Hand-carried goods such as watch, camera, etc., must be re-inspected at the VAT Refund Office at Tribhuvan International Airport (after immigration).


    Present your “Tourist Application for VAT Refund” form certified by the Custom Officer to the VAT Refund Office. How will the Refund be paid?

    You can choose to receive your Refund by:

    What do not qualify for VAT refund?

    • Goods or services consumed in Nepal
    • Goods not take out of Nepal within 60 days from the date of purchase date
    • Person departing via land route do not qualify for VAT refund


    Rastriya Banijya Bank

    • Foreign Exchange Counter at Departure Lounge (after immigration)
    • Any foreigner leaving Nepal through Tribhuvan International Airport can sell their surplus Nepalese currency at the counter of Rastriya Banijya Bank at the Departure Lounge (after immigration).


    How to avail this service?

    • The person is neither Nepalese nor Indian.
    • The person must surrender Foreign Exchange Encashment Receipt (FEER) before the exchange counter.
    • Nepalese Currency sought to be sold at the exchange counter should not exceed the amount purchased before. This has to be substantiated from the FEER together with the reduction(s) mentioned in the FEER.
    • The person must present valid passport for the verification at the exchange counter.
    • The person will be entitled for foreign exchange at prevailing bank's selling rate, subject to availability of the desired currency. In the case on non-availability of the desired currency the person may be requested to accept alternative foreign currency.
